November Updates!

The leaves have changed. Loved this yellow tree down the street from me. Everyday I'd pass by and have to get a good look. We had a big wind storm yesterday and that cleared all the leaves off. They swirled along the streets inviting us out to dance. I stayed in as we lost power, only for a few hours though.

Up ahead we have The Christmas Butterfly, should be out in a few weeks! Then we move into December. I have another dog that will be coming out to play and the special edition of Three Wee Peas for December 25th! Definitely look for promotions and sales in the amazon store. It's a great time for it. I know I will be downloading music on BLACK FRIDAY. They have great deals on that day. I think I bought five albums last year.

Otherwise, enjoy the turkey!!! I may post again this month or in December, depends on my writing schedule. I do write novels under another name and that keeps me busy. Have a good one.

Kid Lit Giveaway Hop!

Cherishing Story Time

Nothing is as special as the time spent reading to children.  What do we feed their inquisitive minds as we invest this time with them daily?  Our literature selection says as much about our wants and dreams as the stories themselves.  Nourishing imaginations, telling stories, and making connections are all a product on this pathway to communication.  The fact that we have fun doing it is just a happy byproduct!  Cherish the time you spend with your child as you retell them their favorite bedtime story for the thousandth time, for we all know that too soon they will be (self considered) too old for this treatment.  Treat yourself instead; share a good book with your child that will help them understand you.  You'll thank yourself when they're teenagers!

In honor of children's book week, I am joining in this amazing giveaway hop presented by

Mother Daughter Book Reviews

Grass isn't red!

That's because I traded green for red in my camera. Funny looking isn't it? This is Deception Pass on Whidbey Island. We went out for a day drive over the weekend.

The weather here is finally picking up as far as sunshine goes. Thank goodness for that. I do love Seattle, but a break from the rain is always appreciated.

So. . . I have been very busy writing and coming up with new ideas. We are going to have a new release here soon--the sequel to Puppy Come Home! That book was very popular, so the little guy is coming out to play again.

Otherwise, just enjoying spring and planning my trip to Denver. Excited to see a new place. We are visiting for fun. I hear it is a great state, lots of outdoor activities to do. We will be taking a nice drive out into the mountains, and seeing downtown Denver. I always have to try out the caesar salads in places--love the stuff.

Photography is one of my side hobbies. I will post some pics of my trip when I return.

Have a wonderful week all!

Ta ta for now ;) Enjoy that sun if you can.

Welcome Author, David Chuka!

Please welcome David to the blog today. He has stopped by for an interview. His books are fun and bright! What was your favorite childhood children’s book? What drew you to it?

I used to love Enid Blyton books and I remember one summer when I read and re-read the Famous Five. I loved the fact that I could see myself as one of the Famous Five.
What is your favorite children’s movie?

At the moment, I’m really loving Rio. My son who’s three always requests it and I love the opening song. It just brings a smile to my face every time I hear it.
What brought you into the wonderful world of creating children’s books?

I guess due to my daughter being at the age where she was starting to read and not finding a lot of appropriate books on the Kindle store that she could practice with.
What is your current project? Tell us about it.

I’m currently working with my illustrator on the third book in ‘The Fartastic Adventure of Billy and Monster’ series. It’s called Billy and the Monster who ate All the Easter Eggs.
What advice do you have for the little ones out there?

Never stop dreaming. All things are possible.
Where do you get your inspirations for your characters and storylines in your books?

I can’t really pin-point a particular thing as I tend to pluck ideas from thin air. However, my children do have a part to play as they are at that stage where they are discovering the world and their interpretation of what they discover can be really cute and charming.
What were your favorite books from your childhood?

I loved reading different history books about the different wars that occurred in different parts of the world.
What are the best and the worst things about being a writer?

The best thing about being a writer is someone telling you your story made them laugh, cry, ponder etc. Basically, your story had an emotional impact on them. The worst part is when you know that you’ve written a good (maybe even great) story that is not resonating with your audience.
Tell us a little bit about your books, what age group they are for and where can people buy your books?

I try and educate and entertain in all my books. Education could occur in terms of introducing new words for children to learn, weaving a moral into the story or using a rhyming flow to make the story more palatable for a young reader. In terms of entertaining, I rely on vivid illustrations plus goofy and quirky situations to make children laugh.
I would say my books are for 3-8 year olds. As a father who loves bedtime story hour, I have parents at heart when I write, so I try and include things in my stories that will make both the child and adult have a chuckle.

My books are currently available on the Amazon store here:

Thanks for joining us today!

The Black Moor

I bought some fish and I want to share as these little guys are just so funny. I come over to the tank in the mornings to feed them and they just start going wild, wriggling about.

They are called Black Moors. And they are a type of goldfish that don't typically see very well. I call them googly eyes and they swim off kilter. The poor things!!! Anyway. I used to have fish when I was a kid and always enjoyed them, so I got these for my two. I want to get more fish, but I've been reading that it's best to leave them on their own or put in other goldfish that have similar eye problems, otherwise the better fish will eat all the food. I couldn't have them starving!!! EEK!!!

Their fins are pretty as they oogle about! Setting up the tank has been a task. I followed all the instructions, plopped the fish in and for the first few days I thought they would die. They were on the bottom, barely moving. I bought a heater and that seemed to perk them up. Now they are all over the place. Then the algae took over growing up the glass, water became cloudy. I have fixed this by doing weekly water changes and adding in BOB! Bob is a catfish. SCORE!!!

Ahhhh---fish ;) They give me ideas for another poem or two!!!.

2013 What's ahead?

Where did the holidays go? Today I took down the Christmas tree. It seems like every year I pick up more ornaments. Funny how that goes. Next year I'm thinking I may add another tree to our front room, just a little one for fun.

I want to thank those of you who have picked up our new puppy and thank you for all of the wonderful reviews. He is the #1 Hot New Release in Children's Poetry on amazon. It took me longer to write up this particular book because I wanted to get the words just right. I have lost a puppy in the past and we did find him. His name is Charlie and he is a dachshund. The little guy likes beef jerky--haha.

I may do up a story on him down the road. For now though I'd like to introduce you to our new little T-Rex. His name is Red Rex. He'll be out in about a month. I will post the cover soon. Daren has done up a cutie pie for sure.

Coming up:

I have an interview at one of the local elementary schools. I will be bringing prizes and fun things for the kids there. I am looking forward to it. I hope you are all doing well and getting your resoultions in order :) Me--I'm trying to eat healthier this year. I do enjoy my pizza!
